That's an interesting question about the excitement of shooting at people. I don't think that Fern was necessarily excited so much as understanding the need for it. She seems very driven by logic and insight and I think they'd thrown in with Jack and decided they had to fight their way out.
But I could definitely understand why Wim would because I suspect his attraction to Jedi has little to do with the Jedi nature so much as the promise of action and adventure. I don't see any of the other kids actually being particularly interested in Jedi, that seems like just a Wim thing.
However my bigger question is how these kids know how to work these controls with no preparation at all. Neel clearly doesn't do very well at it but it's a surprise given the circumstances that he doesn't immediately crash them.
I agree that Law added a lot to the episode and also it was a relief to feel the plot moving forward.
