Disney sure is ramping up their plans for Marvel and Star Wars content, huh? Hopefully this community can serve as a meeting ground for people wanting to talk about all the new shinies.

Some basic guidelines:
* General courtesy, please. If you don’t like it, don’t read it. (make back button, not war, my pals ❤️)
* Comments make the fandom go round. See something you like, let em know!
* Any and all spoilers go beneath a cut, and are marked as such. This includes casting information and trailer reactions. Mild spoilers for episodes that have been out for over a week is ok.
* If posting icons, post up to four teaser icons, the rest after the cut/following the link. Spoilers count in icon-form as well, so no icons from episodes less than a week old outside of a cut, please.
* No graphics bigger than 400x400 outside of cuts.
* Any and all content is welcome for new or old Disney+ shows related to Marvel and Star Wars. (Fics, art, recs, meta, vids, graphics, discussion & question posts, reviews and general thoughts, podfic, crafts, resources, news, promoting challenges and exchanges related to Disney+ shows, etc. We may have to reconsider our approach to fic if we start to get a lot of fic announcement posts.)
* Tagging is strongly encouraged (organization! woo \o/).
* No AI fanworks.
* Do not post content made by others, but please do link to it. Sharing is caring <3

If you have any questions, ask away. And if you’d like to sign up to do episode reaction posts for a show, or maybe organize a rewatch of something? You are more than welcome to here.

I’d also love a co-mod or two. Hit me up!

Well, it was nice to get a little decent Marvel content in Punisher: One Last Kill last night, even if it did feel more like John Wick content. Perhaps the key was dialling the ambition way down from where it was on Daredevil and focusing on telling a simple vignette. It helps that Jon Bernthal seems very passionate about the character, enough that he co-wrote the teleplay with Reinaldo Marcus Green, who directed. Green is the director of the Academy Award nominated film, King Richard, which I haven't seen, but One Last Kill does come across as more competently directed and less sloppily edited than a lot of other recent Marvel TV content. And, thank Christ, the fight choreography is good.

Last night's Daredevil: Born Again finale may have been the dumbest hour of television I ever watched. "The Southern Cross", written by Dario Scardapane and Jesse Wigutow, presented nonsensical, overly dramatic events driven by vague or utterly nonexistent character motives and weird, extremely hazy conceptions of legal process.

Yesterday, ahead of watching the new Daredevil: Born Again, I was seeing a lot of articles crop up about how dismal the ratings are for the series this season, much lower than for the first season. It doesn't surprise me. The show has kind of a cheap aesthetic, less unified and streamlined than in its previous incarnation, and it lacks the amazing action choreography that was a calling card of the old series. But primarily the problem is the writing. It's not the wokeness. Andor had progressive, revolutionary politics but now Andor is the benchmark of quality at Disney+. Daredevil: Born Again, meanwhile, makes me think there's some credence in the theory that Disney's secretly having AI write scripts. Last night's episode was credited to Heather Bellson, but it, and many other episodes, feels sort of like a theoretical model of what a show like this should be.

Last night's new Daredevil: Born Again was one of the better written of the Born Again series. It's kind of a low bar, though, and there were a few weak bits in the teleplay by Devon Kilger and Jesse Wigutow. But I appreciated how the story got weird at points.

Here comes the nostalgia. The new episode of Daredevil: Born Again, written by Jesse Wigutow, relied heavily on past content. If you like to linger thoughtfully over past episodes of TV series, you may enjoy this episode more than the less sentimental among us.

There was some exciting stuff in the new episode of Daredevil written by Chantelle M. Wells whose previous credits include Yellowjackets and Echo. I wonder how much of it will stick.

For some reason, two new episodes of Daredevil: Born Again were released on Wednesday, episodes two and three, written by Dario Scardapane and Heather Bellson, respectively. I have to say, the Heather Bellson episode was much stronger but I'm not feeling good about the writing on this season overall.

I felt bad for casting aspersions on Wonder Man without watching it properly so I went back and watched the first two episodes. It's not as bad as I originally thought though it does fail the test, "Would I Watch This If It Weren't the MCU?"

Extremely mild spoilers for the first two episodes of Wonder Man behind the cut )

Hollywood loves to make movies about itself but they're only occasionally successful at the box office. Here's my top ten list:

10. Tropic Thunder
9. The Other Side of the Wind
8. All About Eve
7. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
6. In a Lonely Place
5. Inland Empire
4. Sullivan's Travels
3. Sunset Boulevard
2. Singin' In the Rain
1. Mulholland Drive

The first episode of the new season of Daredevil: Born Again does feel more solid than season one. I don't know if this indicates a better season overall but the pacing felt more natural, conversations didn't feel oddly crammed into blocks of a few minutes. The action scenes are better but still nowhere near the level of the old Netflix series. The performances are good with one new supporting character being a standout.

The wide spread objections won through, and Jimmy Kimmel is back on the air, making zero concessions/bullshit apologies.
Kimmel’s show to return Tuesday, but Sinclair will continue to keep it off its ABC stations.
But not all of ABC’s affiliated stations will be carrying Kimmel’s comeback show. Sinclair, one of the country’s biggest owners of local TV stations, said its ABC affiliates will preempt the show “beginning Tuesday night.” Sinclair said it will air news programming in the time slot instead.

“Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show’s potential return,” a Sinclair spokesperson told CNN.

Sinclair’s conservative owners condemned Kimmel last week and contributed to ABC parent Disney’s decision to pull the show from the airwaves.

Marvel Stars Stand for Jimmy Kimmel: Pedro Pascal Defends Free Speech While Others Endorse Boycott

Pascal’s post came on the heels of other Marvel stars taking their support a step further by endorsing a boycott of the studio and its subsidiaries, including platforms that stream their work. Marisa Tomei, who played Aunt May opposite Tom Holland in the Spider-Man franchise (a Marvel property distributed by Sony, though she appears in Disney releases from the Avengers universe), reposted a call to “unsubscribe and boycott” platforms under the Walt Disney Company umbrella, including Marvel, ABC, ESPN, Fox Entertainment, Hulu, Pixar, Lucasfilm and Bamtech Media.

Tatiana Maslany, who starred in the title role of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, a Marvel series that debuted on Disney+, posted a behind-the-scenes photo of herself on set, urging her Instagram followers to “cancel your Disney+, Hulu, ESPN subscriptions!” Mark Ruffalo, who played the Hulk on the big screen, participated in a No Kings online event during which he weighed in. “My industry doesn’t really understand what’s happening right now, but what they do understand is our freedom of speech is being attacked.”

I finally got through the first three episodes of Ironheart that premiered on Wednesday. I find it very dull. I think the main problems for me are the characters, performances, and plot. The special effects are okay. It's not, and I want to be emphatic about this, it's not bad because it's woke.

For the final three episodes of Andor, which were quite good, the curious decision to bring a new writer to the series, Tom Bissell, was made. It wasn't a bad idea, it turns out. Bissell is best known for writing video games, according to Wikipedia. Maybe that gave him a good instinct for kinetic suspense.

Wow. Could there be anyone who wasn't pleased with last night's trio of new Andor episodes? I, for one, was captivated. They were written by Tony's brother Dan Gilroy who wrote the Aldani heist arc in the first season. Back then, I wondered if Dan was not a better writer than his brother. Now I really think he is.

Now I've watched "What a Festive Evening", episode six of Andor season two, a nice little symphony of suspense. As I noted yesterday, the writer of this arc, Beau Willimon, wrote the prison arc last season, which was stronger than this because it revolved around one man's life changing and it was done with an extraordinary performance by Andy Serkis. But "What a Festive Evening" was by no means bad.

I only had time to watch two of the three new episodes of Andor last night but that sure wasn't a reflection of their quality. I thought the two I watched were better than the first three. Written by Beau Willimon, who wrote the prison story arc last season, this new one is the most the show has felt like a spy thriller.

I still have no internet in my apartment but I was excited enough for the new episodes of Andor that I trudged all the way to the manga cafe to watch them last night. Mostly, I was not disappointed, though nothing in the three episode premiere has approached the highest points of the first season. It's just nice watching a Disney+ show that feels real, like something writers sat down and thought about how to make a good story for rather than something produced by a committee from a venn diagram of corporate and political interests.

Last night's finale of Daredevil: Born Again felt largely like a setup for season two. I guess that's not surprising given the troubled production history that saw the show handed from one creative vision to another. There were aspects I liked about the finale but somehow it all added up to something less satisfying than the finales on the original Daredevil series.

Okay, I guess I can't put off writing about Wednesday's Daredevil any longer. I hate writing negative reviews but in for a penny, in for a pound. It's particularly disappointing because I had high hopes for this show. Vincent D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk is truly one of the best things about not just the MCU but comic book film and television of the last thirty years. But once again, Disney was under the impression they could cut corners in one of the most essential aspects of any production: the writing.

"Art for Art's Sake" (Walter Pater is rolling in his grave) was written by Jill Blankenship who also wrote the abysmal episode three, "The Hollow of His Hand", so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
