I was also immediately struck by the Rey parallel (though also thought of Buffy).
Regarding their earlier meeting in the casino hotel room, I noticed in the "making of" segment that it looks like they edited things out of that scene. I don't know if it was because they wanted to change what happened there after seeing it all together or it was a runtime decision, but the latter seems unlikely given that the shows don't need to stick to specific time limits.
That said, I liked this a whole lot more than you and it would seem many others did. I was expecting more of a Secret Invasion sort of blahness but I was fairly invested after the first episode.
