New Rockstars has an episode reaction video out. They go through a lot of comics theories so possible accidental spoilers. But if you want the backstory of Juan Torres and some other characters, they were entertaining infodumps.

Those end credits are legit! Screecapped has sections for both the first episode and the end credits.

Oh man you're right! That is a slick looking This Is Captain America exhibit! There's a traveling general Marvel stuff exhibit in Chicago through the middle of October, and I am really tempted to go see it.

I was...going to hope you were somewhere near the Chicago area in which case I was going to attempt inquire incredibly casually whether you were vaccinated and/or outgoing enough to meet a fandom person you don't even know outside of the internet at the MSI.

But, I mean, I'm definitely going regardless, my 2nd shot is going to be in about two weeks and I'm very excited to plan an actual outing.

Ah man! I would absolutely LOVE to meet up for a fannish outing, and I have had both shots, but the logistics of taking time off work now and getting from Oklahoma to Chicago are problematic. : ) I'm kinda just crossing my fingers that nothing else bad happens (insert slightly maniacal laughter here) and I can plan something in Sept/Oct.

I hope you get to go and enjoy it though!

SOMEDAY if you make it to the Chicago area, ring me up! confabcon and fanworks will be running in Chicago eventually (at the old VividCon hotel, conveniently accessible from O'Hare via public transit) in late 2021 and mid-2022.

The story structure felt a bit weird. First the action (those flight stunts ♥ ⌣ ♥ and I totally recognized Henry Jackman's work here, because I've been listening to the X-Men: First Class soundtrack daily all week), then the character stuff.

It was good character stuff though. Now I wonder if all Marvel shows will be that realistic. Superheroes - between doing their hero stuff - dealing with rl shit like guilt and racism. Nice!

What wasn't nice was the badly spoken German, haha. Makes me look forward even more to someone.

I don't even care that much about Captain America, but replacing him is just so disrespectful. I wonder how they'll get rid of the new guy. I mean, they will, right?

Yeah, I've described it as the first fifteen mins of a movie. You get all the setup but haven't gotten to the plot yet. I'll be interested in how the pacing works across all six episodes. I tried to listen for the Cap American theme to see if they'd thread it in, but I think I got distracted by Sam's pretty face.

I've seen speculation that this mini series will change the way the Marvel movies work, but they're still dealing with a normal movie time restraint of two or less hours, so IDK? I love that we get the chance here for characters to breathe and scenes like Sam trying to get the boat working. I mean that would have never made the cut in a movie.

I hope Sam gets the last word with that two faced politician!

The fear I have is they'll start using series to tell the small, contained, linear stories, and then the movies will turn into big ~event~ type things. I loathe this format in comics, so very much hoping they don't lean in that direction.

Ah that makes more sense. Really, the mini series is my preferred format anymore - bite sized pieces of a longer encapsulated arc. I suppose I would just take or leave the big movie events depending on the villain and event?

Well, we do already have the event format with the Avengers movies. I just hope they don't take it further, because I do enjoy getting big blockbuster movies so long as the focus is on a smaller group of characters.

What I dislike about the events is they usually end up warping or straight up discarding previous character work so they can have their Big Event. (forever more pissed they hijacked Captain America 3 for this purpose)

Now I like a good wink, it's those flinchers that I keep an eye on. : ) I know, right? Like they were building up that first action scene so much, but they totally delivered. I've watched those wings a lot, and they are so responsive! I have no idea what the in universe explanation is, but it's like they are a part of him, and with them he is so, so graceful. And almost bulletproof.

I'll take all the rambling thoughts! Keep 'em coming!

I saw why Bucky was hanging out with his older friend coming a mile away, but still very amused he's hanging out with yet another spunky hothead that picks fights in alleys :p

I don't know why his WS dream felt so familiar to me. Like, the strongest sense of deja vu. LOVED getting the WS theme playing again though. Maybe I'm an asshole but hopefully Bucky has more traumatic dreams to show us.

Not keen on his therapist. But then most TV therapists bug me.

We finally get time with Sam's family!! I kinda got deja vu in their house too, but that's from fic I've read. Very happy for Sam to get some time to breathe and deal with everything that's happened. Also he's got a fanboy now 🙌

I had not connected those dots either about him and his alley fights! That's got to be a gut punch for him. Like he's already torturing himself with some of that amends list, and then he turns out to genuinely like this grumpy old dude . . . like. Bucky desperately needs help.

So, because I know that Bucky's going to get a happy for now ending - either Disney's going to give it to him, or I'mma find the fanfiction that does - I too really want more Winter Soldier flashbacks. I really like that they seem to really be emphasizing the differences between fight styles, and the Winter Soldier is just so brutal, and do I sometimes day dream about going on my own roaring rampage through my boss' office? Yes. But until I finally get to quit and flip everyone off while doing cartwheels down the hallway, I'll live vicariously.

NOTHING BAD HAD BETTER HAPPEN TO SAM'S FAMILY! I love Sam and Sarah's relationship and those kids are cute, and I just want them to be happy and figure life out post blip.

One reviewer I've read - Keith R. A. DeCandido at Tor.com - thinks this series was written with marathon/binge-watching in mind, even though Disney+ is releasing it week by week. (He also agrees that this episode is pretty much all setup.)

The one thing that seems clear from this opener, in combination with the full run of WandaVision, is that the MCU television stories so far are clearly very much character-driven, even where they involve seriously sneaky plot twists along the way. In that light, it's going to be interesting to see where the Loki series goes once that's dropped.

I absolutely like that the Marvel shows on Disney+ are willing to do some weird things - all of WandaVision and this forty min set up where the two lead characters aren't even in the same state yet. I think you're right and Loki is another character where they can play around a little. I live for character driven stuff, so this is completely my jam! : )

I'm glad they're releasing Falcon/WS weekly because I'm selfish and just want to enjoy it for as long as possible, but I am also super excited to watch the whole thing all together! I think I said on my journal that we've seen Sam/Bucky punch more people than we've seen them deliver lines so I think this setup episode was very necessary.
