(Hope I am doing this right, and also hope this isn't too soon!)
This is a reaction post for the first episode of the second season of Loki! Share your thoughts? (Does anyone have any icons? I suddenly NEED some for this show again.)
My thoughts!
My partner and I really liked it! I thought it was very fun, fast-moving, cleverly written, and it apparently picked right up from the cliffhanger of Season 1 where Sylvie sees all the timelines going off like fireworks. I loved how the future was affecting the past which turned into the present, which was on show in the scene with Loki, Mobius and O.B. I am unspoiled for the whole rest of the season so I have no idea how this is going to go, but if the rest of the episodes are this fun and smart, it'll be a wild ride.
One thing: the trailer for the whole season had different dialogue for that scene in R&A --O.B. says he has seen the time slippage before, Mobius knows to call him O.B. and O.B. says "Great to see you again!" * I'm not sure if this is just Marvel messing with us re trailers (which they have done SO MUCH of, omg) or if this means there's going to be more time loops in the future of the show. I think this series is going to pay rewatching!
* ETA LOL apparently I messed this up a little bit. O.B. does say the same thing in the trailer and the episode, and he says "great to see you again!" The difference is that Mobius calls him O.B. So it could be a quick glimpse of yet another take on that scene, or it could just be Marvel messing with us via trailers. But the show has already played some timey-wimey tricks ("How long has that crack been there?") so I wouldn't be surprised if variations are still key later on. I also think it's pretty significant the first ep is called Oroborous and that's O.B.'s name as well. I wouldn't be surprised if a Loki variant is the one who prunes/saves Loki later on, or if there are some other bigger loops.
What did other viewers think? Yea, Nay, somewhere in between?

Date: 2023-10-08 05:10 pm (UTC)I loved the Fifth-Element bit with him falling into the flying mail car and crashing into the big window. There was a whole lot of physicality and physical comedy in this ep and they carried it off very well -- Mobius in the Stay-Puft suit, Loki literally burning through the lie of the Timekeepers to expose Kang on the wall, the way he spaghettified in and out of time -- I'm not sure that's fixed, as there's a scene in the trailer where he does that in front of a jetski place! It feels like the world has opened out more too -- in S1 there were a lot of two-hander scenes with Loki and Mobius, Mobius and Renslayer, Sylvia and Loki, &c &c (not complaining -- I loved S1). This has more of an ensemble feel already.
Someone pointed out in a review that the TVA sets are in those very warm seventies colours -- rust, harvest gold, beige, with that modular look -- but they're also kind of low lit (I don't know what the technical term is for it, lol) which creates an interesting contrast. I think the lighting in S1 was kind of brighter and bluer? Like Loki ruining Mobius's salad in the caf, lol, altho looking at it, that also seems like a pale sickly green. FORESHADOWING for the Key Lime Pie?
